Emergence in Systems#

Complex behavior emerges from simple rules applied consistently. No individual ant knows the colony’s plan. No single neuron contains a thought.

Note systems exhibit emergence: individual notes are simple, but their connections create something more than the sum of parts.

You can’t design emergence, but you can create conditions for it:

  • Many components (lots of notes)
  • Rich connections (dense links)
  • Time (let patterns develop)
