Summary#

Nietzsche references Buddha alongside Schopenhauer as exemplars of world-renouncing pessimistic thought. In Beyond Good and Evil, he characterizes Buddha’s philosophy as remaining under the dominion and delusion of morality, still caught within the framework of good and evil rather than transcending it. Nietzsche contrasts this Asiatic renunciation with his own ideal of the world-approving, exuberant individual who embraces eternal recurrence.
