Impermanence#
Summary#
All things are formed by nature to change, perish, and give way to continuous succession. Marcus Aurelius likens human lives to leaves that spring forth, are cast down by the wind, and are replaced by others in an endless cycle. By contemplating the rapid transformation of all things and the eternity of time, one learns to despise attachment to the perishable and recognize that even the earth itself will change.
