The inversion of valuations refers to the Jewish prophets’ reversal of ancient moral values, whereby “rich,” “godless,” “wicked,” “violent,” and “sensual” became fused into a single reproachable category, while “poor” became synonymous with “saint” and “friend.” This transvaluation gave life on earth a “new and dangerous charm” and marks the beginning of what Nietzsche calls the slave-insurrection in morals.
