Summary#

Nietzsche argues that in every philosophy there comes a point where the philosopher’s personal conviction appears on the scene, revealing the autobiographical nature of philosophical systems. He laments that modern philosophy has degraded itself by submitting to scientific authority, reduced to mere theory of knowledge that timidly refuses to cross any threshold. Against this decline, Nietzsche invokes the royal magnificence of ancient philosophical anchorites like Heraclitus and Plato as the standard by which contemporary philosophers appear contemptible.
