Summary#

The Platonists were the followers of Plato whom Epicurus mockingly called “Dionysiokolakes”—a term meaning both “flatterers of Dionysius” (tyrants’ accessories) and “actors” (suggesting nothing genuine about them). Epicurus was irritated by their grandiose manner and theatrical style of philosophizing, a mastery he himself lacked.
