Self-surmounting of man#

Summary#

The self-surmounting of man describes the continued elevation of the human type, a process Nietzsche attributes to aristocratic society and the pathos of distance between classes. This widening of distance within the soul itself produces ever higher, rarer, and more comprehensive states of being. Nietzsche uses this “moral formula in a supermoral sense” to characterize the longing for human greatness that arises from hierarchical social structures.
