Soul-atomism is the belief, taught most persistently by Christianity, that regards the soul as something indestructible, eternal, indivisible—as a monad or atomon. Nietzsche argues this superstition ought to be expelled from science, though not the concept of the soul itself. He proposes new conceptions such as “mortal soul,” “soul of subjective multiplicity,” and “soul as social structure of the instincts and passions” as legitimate replacements for the old atomistic view.
